C.O.S.: You started out under the name GROTESQUE, right?
When was this, and when did the change to AT THE GATES
        occur?

Adrian: Well not really 'cause Grotesque was Tomas' previous band.
Together with Alf, me, and Anders he started At The Gates
in October 1990. Grotesque never was the same band as ATG.

C.O.S.: Is it true that you never recorded any demos, and GARDENS OF
        GRIEF was your first-ever release?

Adrian: Yes it's true- Gardens of Grief was meant to be At The Gates'
first demo tape, but since we got an offer from Dolores Rec.
to release it as a MLP instead it never came out as a demo.

C.O.S.: I noticed on WITH FEAR I KISS THE BURNING DARKNESS it says
that the music was written 1991-1993. I was wondering
which songs are older, and if any of that was written before
the stuff on THE RED IN THE SKY IS OURS?

Adrian: "Raped By the Light of Christ", "Stardrowned", "The Architects"
are older songs. However they weren't finished when we recorded
The Red in the Sky is Ours.

C.O.S.: Why did Alf leave the band? (I noticed he lettered all the stuff
on TERMINAL SPIRIT DISEASE--I take it there were no hard
feelings involved!) What's he up to now?

Adrian: He wanted to start his tattoo studio and he simply didn't
have time for the band. There are absolutely no hard feelings
whatsoever. He left on his own free will and it all worked
        very smoothly.

C.O.S.: Why did you decide to put only six new tracks and three live
        tracks on TERMINAL SPIRIT DISEASE?

Adrian: That was Peaceville's choice, we wanted to release Terminal...
as a mini CD. However I've come to think it's cool 'cause
a lot of people never got the chance to catch us live, but
with the live trax they at least get a chance to hear what
        we're about live.

C.O.S.: All of your LP covers have such strange images on them--could
you tell us what they represent(if anything)?? I thought
maybe the outstreched red hand on the cover of TERMINAL
might relate to the cover of RED IN THE SKY somehow...

Adrian: There are no intentional connections between our covers.
They are meant to suit the feeling of our music, nothing else.

C.O.S.: You did a 7" for the Peaceville Collector's Club thing, right?
        What's on it?

Adrian: Two of the trax from Gardens of Grief: "Souls of the Evil
        Departed" and "All Life Ends".

C.O.S.: Can you give us any info on the next LP??

Adrian: It will follow the same style as we found on Terminal, maybe
even more aggresive. It will probably be called Slaughter
of the Soul and is "scheduled" for a release during the summer.

C.O.S.: Your stuff is so complex at times--how long does it take you
        to get a song down??

Adrian: About 4-5 rehearsals.

C.O.S.: Any tours coming up? Is there a chance you'll get to the
        U.S. anytime??

Adrian: We have a European tour coming in Feb-March '95. It will be
our first headline tour and we'll have Seance (Swe) and
Ancient Rites (Belgium) as support acts. We hope to come to
the US after the release of our next CD!

C.O.S.: Thank you so much for your time--is there anything else you'd
like to say? The last words are yours...

Adrian: Thanx for a cool interview. Anyone interested in us please
don't hesitate to write a.s.a.p. Look out for a new CD by
        this summer. Take care.
